Just received...
...this lovely string of emails from my doctor, starting (per usual) with a worried question from me.
First of all, my doc is awesome and I'm so glad he believes in God.

Hi Dr. C,
I hope you are well. I wanted to ask you a question, even though I know we are in a period of "waiting" this month. I have recently learned through a fellow Catholic with infertility about Lutinized Unruptured Follicle Syndrome. I know I have gotten pregnant twice, but is it possible that I have developed this? I am only curious because of my stellar ovulation without pregnancy...could this explain it?
If not, then please ignore me, I just thought I would ask. It sounded suspiciously like it could be part of my story, but of course, you very well may have thought of this already.
Blessings for a wonderful week,
Emily H

Hi Emily,First: I know about Luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome. That might be a part of your problem, and the only way to surely test is to do an ultrasound during the luteal phase. It is also treated with Ovidrel or Novarel, two hcg drugs that stimulate ovulation. With the next cycle, we can definitely check. Thanks and God bless you on this Great Feast of the Annunciation!AJC

Regarding LUFS, is this a likely scenario in my case? I am feeling at peace this week but even the possibility that there might be "more to fix" is upsetting to me. I just want to know if I should realistically prepare myself for more treatments/surgeries/time etc. I suppose I should just in case, but hearing about this new condition shook me up a little.
Thanks as always, and blessings on a most appropriate feast day!

Hi Emily
I would doubt that that is one of your concerns as typically LUF will remain at the start of the next cycle and frequently persist.
As for what to prepare for, I would think that the next cycle will be with clomid, with an ovulation trigger injection and progesterone supplementation. I will be reviewing the rest of the chart today. The only thing that would cause a delay would be if they needed me to get a fresh day 3 test, which would delay one more cycle….I should know that in the next few days.
God Bless you
AJC

First of all, my doc is awesome and I'm so glad he believes in God.
Second, my God is awesome. I have not forgotten that.
Third, why did I even let my mind go here today? Now, I am left thinking about the next step, when I should be focusing on the present...on this cycle...on the surrender that I am practicing.
Third, why did I even let my mind go here today? Now, I am left thinking about the next step, when I should be focusing on the present...on this cycle...on the surrender that I am practicing.
Instead, I have sufficiently wigged myself out with a series of 'what-if's'... way to go Emily.
Please pray for me, as the amazing peace I felt last week is seemingly slipping away...
xoxo,
Wow! Your doc is awesome! I'm so happy you're getting good care! PS I'm trying to 'follow' you and your blog won't let me!
ReplyDeleteHe IS awesome...and YES, Dr. Caruso, how did you guess? Have you seen him?! He is such an amazing doctor. PS I just saw on your blog that you suffer from LUFS...maybe I could compare symptoms with you, I'm wondering if that might be part of my problem!
DeleteP.S. Hopefully I fixed the problem with you following my blog... thanks, by the way :)
DeleteMy dad is friends with him! He reviewed my surgery DVD from PPVI and actually disagreed with some of their diagnoses. At the time, his practice wasn't open yet, but I may send him my records and see what he thinks now that his office is up and running. I'll be interested to hear more about how he handles the LUFs. I've been doing HCG triggers for over a year with no success. I'd love to compare notes. Which blog did you originally read about LUFS on? Email me! infertilemn@gmail.com
DeleteNO WAY...what a small small world. I will definitely be emailing you! Dr. Caruso is AMAZING!
DeleteDo you see Dr. Caruso?
